LOUISE B. HALFE

Louise B. Halfe, also known as "Sky Dancer," is a contemporary Canadian poet of the Cree nation who served as the Parliamentary Poet Laureate of Canada in 2021 and 2022. Her poetic work explores her indigenous roots and the intergenerational importance of Cree cultural heritage. In this sense, her latest volume of poetry, Burning in This Midnight Dream, published in 2016, emphasises the traumatic effects that residential schools had on the survivors of such institutions and which persist over time due to their emotional, psychological, and cultural impact inherited from generation to generation.

The objective of this research is the study of intergenerational relationships present in Halfe's work. On the one hand, the importance of cultural and identity teachings passed down from grandmothers to granddaughters who are now mothers and their gender implications will be analysed. On the other hand, an examination will be conducted on how Halfe rewrites her personal story at different life stages by understanding fragments of life stories from her parents, grandparents, and ancestors.
