Methodology
The interdisciplinary nature of the project implies a combination of methods discussed below, depending if they are linked to the analysis of real-life experiences or literary narratives, or both.
Download Pdfa) Analysis of literary narratives with an intergenerational approach:
In this first part of the project, members of the Dedal-Lit Group as well as members of the GESEC group will carry out an analysis of the roles attributed to the different characters in the selected plays described in the section on specific objectives as well as the relationships established between them (1- plays by contemporary authors of different nationalities and social and cultural context with a clear intergenerational component; 2- shows based on national and international dramaturgies and processes of creation of stage dramaturgy; 3- selected sample of children's/youth/juvenile literature and the creation processes of stage dramaturgy; 3- selected sample of children's/youth/juvenile literature with an intergenerational approach; 2- shows based on national and international dramaturgies and processes of creation of stage dramaturgy; 3- selected sample of children's/youth/adult literature within the commercial circuit "grandparents in books").
The analysis of the roles attributed to the different characters in these works as well as the relationships established between characters will provide a solid base from which to work on intergenerational relationships and the problems encountered in different age groups in workshops and activities that will be organised on the basis of the compilation and analysis of these works.
The works will be analysed from the perspective of literary gerontology, as well as cultural studies and profigurative theory, disciplines from which an intimate relationship is established between cultural, educational and social contexts in relation to the questioning of the roles that a person must follow according to their age, gender, cultural group, or social condition. At the same time, emphasis will be placed on recurring themes that appear in the works and which are closely related to ageing and the promotion of intergenerational relationships, such as loneliness, mutual social enrichment, friendship, care, pain and disability.
b) Educational application and analysis of the literary narratives:
In this part of the project, which is more educational and sociological in orientation, it is proposed to make an educational and analytical application of the analysed literary narratives based on two main actions:
1- to work with focus groups to find out how young and old readers interact with intergenerational representations and the themes proposed in these narratives (themes around ageing, loneliness, care, gender conceptions, among others).
2- to promote intergenerational activities of reading and creative writing as well as dramaturgical creation involving young and old people in public spaces such as libraries, bookshops, senior centres, residences, university training spaces (whether at undergraduate, postgraduate, Senior Degree or Open Classroom level), through Service-Learning (ApS) and Community Engagement Learning (CEL) experiences.
Based on the analysis of the corpus detailed above as well as the identification and analysis of the intergenerational work that is being carried out in different areas of civil society through the narrative (reading groups already existing in libraries, elderly people in senior centres and residences interested in cultural activities, university training and community learning spaces in which intergenerational activities are contemplated), a series of activities will be organised based on the narratives analysed in the first section of the specific objectives with the aim of promoting intergenerational work, university training and community learning spaces where intergenerational activities are contemplated), a series of activities will be organised based on the narratives analysed in the first section of specific objectives with the aim of promoting intergenerational work between different age groups as well as inviting reflection in relation to the roles and spaces attributed to each age group on a social and cultural level.
