“Between generations” 2024

Emma Domínguez, Maricel Oró, and Verónica Vizcaíno organized a reading group at the Public Library of Lleida titled “Between Generations.” The reading group consisted of four sessions. In the first two sessions, the novels The Troubling Love by Elena Ferrante and White Teeth by Zadie Smith, Tàndem by Maria Barbal, and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel by Deborah Moggach were discussed. The group had 18 participants ranging in age from twenty to eighty years old. Each session lasted an hour and a half, during which the selected novels were discussed from the perspective of intergenerational relationships between family members, neighbors, acquaintances, etc., as well as the way each author understands the concept of aging and intergenerationality according to her work and experience. Topics also included relationships between different generations in the context of immigration, the expectations of each generation depending on the time and place in which the characters grew up and developed, and issues related to aging, the passage of time, old age, caregiving, and death.
